Employee Spotlight: Meet Victor Courtney

Victor Courtney’s journey from disliking school as a student to building a career in education proves that sometimes, the most unexpected paths lead to the greatest purpose. Growing up, Victor lacked a clear direction for his future. Without mentors to guide him, he navigated school without a strong sense of purpose. – It wasn’t until college that he discovered his passion – helping the next generation find their own paths and becoming the mentor he once needed.

In reflecting on his time in school, Victor’s advice to his younger self is simple: “You don’t know it all.” He wishes he had been more open to different perspectives and experiences, recognizing the amount of growth that comes from stepping outside one’s comfort zone. “Getting out of my environment after high school changed my perspective,” he says, which is why he now values College Now exposure programs, such as Xplore and impact, that take students to new places beyond their communities.

Victor now serves as the Director of Advising Programs and Services at College Now. This full-circle experience allows him to give back to students who are navigating the same uncertainties he once faced. In reflecting on his favorite aspects of working at College Now, he loves being able to make an impact on student’s lives, directly and indirectly. Whether it is going on a career-exposure trip with students or overseeing decisions that impact their education, Victor takes pride in being able to make a difference. Victor understands firsthand how overwhelming school can be and works tirelessly to ensure students have the guidance and resources they need to succeed.
