College Now’s Statement on Supreme Court Ruling

June 29, 2023

The Supreme Court’s decision to overturn affirmative action, the long-standing policy that has helped historically marginalized students – mainly Black and Latino – access and achieve higher education is a disappointment. Affirmative action worked to level the playing field by expanding access to postsecondary education so that all Americans can achieve their career goals and realize their potential, aiding to the vitality of this country and the communities in which we live.

The ability to pursue a postsecondary education is a right to which all students should have access, regardless of race. Despite today’s disheartening decision, College Now Greater Cleveland continues our impassioned commitment of ensuring that EVERYONE with whom we work – middle school, high school and adult students alike – can attain any type of postsecondary education they need to pursue the career they want.

Through our extensive programming throughout Northeast Ohio, including providing no-cost individualized career and college advising and support, College Now Greater Cleveland will continue to provide college and career advising, scholarships and retention programs and services for all.
