1967: Our Founding
College Now was the first college access organization in the U.S. It was founded by Robert Coplan, one of the founders of Benesch, Friedlander, Coplan and Aronoff law firm. Named the Cleveland Scholarship Program, the organization’s beginnings included partnering with a couple of high schools in the Cleveland Municipal School District by providing college scholarships to high school graduates.
2012: Expanded Focus & New Name
Scholarships help, but they don’t ensure that students graduate. Cleveland Scholarship Program was renamed College Now Greater Cleveland, and with the addition of the Mentoring Program focused on student retention, we became the nation’s largest comprehensive college access and completion organization.

Mission in Motion
In 2022, College Now partnered with Advocacy & Communication Solutions to launch a bold five-year roadmap shaped by the voices of more than 1,300 stakeholders. Guided by four key pillars, this plan responds to rising education costs, shifting public perception and the growing demand for a skilled workforce.
Our blueprint ensures College Now continues to champion the value of postsecondary education, expand access and attainment, lead conversations that shape the future and strengthen our own capacity to serve students and families.
